Collectif Medz Bazar
WHO ARE WE?
Collectif Medz Bazar is an alternative-folk band composed of musicians of Armenian, Turkish, French and American descent. Drawing on their respective traditions and those of neighboring cultures, the members of the collective create original arrangements of traditional music as well as compositions of their own.
Collectif Medz Bazar is preparing the recording of their fourth album, which will feature mostly originals. The recording will take place this autumn in the city of Porto, with some guest musicians appearing on some of the tracks.
The band is happy to be back on stage, after a period split between long separation and several intensive residencies during the last year and a half.
In September, the band played at the 360 Paris Music Factory and at Les Salorges Cultural Centre, in Noirmoutiers.
Upcoming events include concerts at the Ainerak Festival, in Mauléon-Licharre, a showcase at the Atalante, Paris, for the MaMa Festival - Prix des musiques d’ici, in October, and a concert with the amazing band Ladaniva, at the Maison Folie Wazemmes, in Lille, in November.
In December, the Collectif Medz Bazar, Papiers d'Arménies and the duet Aram and Virginia Kerovpyan (Ensemble Kotchnak, Chorale Akn) will present a first-time concert all together, at the Jean Vilar Theatre, in Suresnes.
We remember with grief the military aggression on the Autonomous Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh by the Azerbaijani forces last fall. Our urge to work in favour of brotherhood between peoples gave birth last winter to a song: VODKI ՈՏՔԻ/STAND/AYAKLAN/DEBOUT.
It is a call, in our mother tongues, for dialogue between peoples, for their emancipation from destructive ideologies, for stepping beyond a heritage of hatred and violence. It is only a beginning, as the road towards true peace is long.
